White Unicorn Gallery in Klatovy
27. 1. - 31. 3. 2024

Matej Al-Ali, Tomáš Moravec, Michal Pustějovský, Roman Štětina, Viktor Takáč

The exhibition presents works by artists (Matej Al-Ali, Tomáš Moravec, Roman Štětina, Viktor Takáč) who first met nearly twenty years ago while students of the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, where some of them (Michal Pustějovský, Viktor Takáč) now teach as well. During their time at the faculty, they discovered themes that they have continuously explored until today (Roman Štětina) and have contributed to the development of the Pilsen gallery scene, including the cultivation of ideas regarding the form and importance of public space (Matěj Al-Ali, Tomáš Moravec). The exhibited works present original artistic tenets that, even though they explore digital and new media, are often articulated using analog working methods, mechanical techniques, and traditional materials.

West Point is a long-term exhibition project aimed at presenting artists whose work has helped shape the art scene of Pilsen and western Bohemia. This “western point” of the Czech Republic has become a point of reference for their visual, conceptual, and critical thinking, which continues to influence their work to this day – both individually and (considering their mutual relationships) as a whole. In fact, this shared experience forms the starting point for the exhibition, which hopes to not just present current works of art and the themes they explore but to also increase public awareness of the influence of western Bohemia and its largest city as a local center of art and culture with a real impact on shaping the contemporary art scene.
