Ondřej Maleček's distinctive and diaphanous paintings combine intellectual heights with profound emotion. Despite their apparent simplicity, they are full of iconographic, literary, and semantic references. Maleček's seemingly uncomplicated style addresses serious subjects and thus represents one pinnacle of contemporary Czech neo-Romantic tendencies. As a true romantic, Maleček explores three themes in particular: love, death, and nature. Another important aspect in his work is narrative. His approach is thus essentially conceptual, and his work can be interpreted as documenting the path of a romantic pilgrim.
