As its title indicates, this exhibition by the painter Petr Malina (1976) – a look back at his works from the past five years – is not just about the ability to look but above all about focusing on what one sees. In this regard, his paintings are personal even though they probably say more about other people’s stories. His choice of motifs is subjective as well, while the way he looks at them is objective to the point of disinterestedness. At the same time, when scanning the urban and natural landscape, Petr Malina does not seek out extreme moments that will magnetically attract out attention. In the great majority of cases, he presents us with everyday existence, which may hide the germ of an event or momentary information on the state of reality. They are moments that we all know but that we don’t usually pay attention to. They are an invitation to look around us anew.
