Karel Steiner was born in 1953 in Prague, although his father’s side of the family hails from Pilsen. He spent his youth in Prague and the remaining two thirds of his life in New York and Paris.
A year after the Soviet occupation, he emigrated to the United States, where he stayed for the next 15 years.
Between 1972 and 1978, Steiner studied political science and photography. In 1984, he moved to Paris, where he continues to live and work to this day. He works as a freelance photographer and as a professor of photography at the Parsons School of Design in Paris. During the past 15 years, he has enjoyed frequent visits to the Czech Republic.
Besides solo exhibitions, Steiner also participates in various international group projects featuring artists from many different artistic genres. The motto of the exhibition at the Burgrave’s House is “an ephemeral Polaroid of the world”. During the opening reception, the artist will give a presentation on working with Polaroid film.
