This year marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Karel Faustin Klostermann (1848–1923), one of the most important representatives of Czech-German rural literature, an author who focused in particular on capturing the Bohemian Forest region in writing. The symposium has thus made it its objective to remember this significant regional figure of cross-border importance. During the symposium, the participating artists will put together comic-book adaptations of selected stories by Klostermann. At the end of the week-long residency, which is being attended by nine artists from the Czech Republic and Germany – Mára Čmára (Marek Kulhavý), Jeff Chi, Kateřina Illnerová, Matěj Kolář, Johana Kubalová, Mathias Meikel, Sophie Nicklas, Anna Portyšová, and Kilian Wilde – the participants will present a large-scale exhibition in the Klenová granary. In November 2023, the exhibition will then be reprised at the Centrum Bavaria Bohemia in Sch?nsee, Germany, followed by another showing at the Czech Center in Munich in February 2024. The symposium and exhibition are organized in collaboration with the Karel Klostermann – Poet of the Bohemian Forest association, which actively nurtures the legacy of this interesting writer on both sides of the border. The project is made possible thanks to financial support from the Czech-German Fund for the Future.
