One of the most important Czech contemporary documentary photographers presents a project of 70 photographs of varying formats from the pre-1989 era. The text is complemented by a book with text by Antonín Dufek and Ludvík Vaculík. The exhibition is being organized in cooperation with the Kroměříž Museum.

Photographer, university teacher, curator, and cultural organizer Jindřich Štreit was born 5 September 1946 in Vsetín. He spent one year teaching at a nine-year primary school in the town of Rýmařov before being named director of the local school in Sovinec, and later in Jiříkov. From 1974 to 1977, he attended the School of Artistic Photography.

Since 1967, Štreit has held more than 850 solo exhibitions in numerous country in Europe and overseas. Since 1964, he has participated in more than 300 exhibitions on four continents and has attended many international workshops and symposia. Since the 1970s, he has worked intensively on organizing other artists’ exhibitions, which he expanded onto the international level after 1989. His opening receptions for exhibitions by Czech and Slovak artists at Sovinec Castle were a legendary part of unofficial culture in the 1980s. He and his wife worked at Sovinec until 1997.

In collaboration with his colleagues from the Institute for Creative Photography at the Faculty of Philosophy and Science of the Silesian University in Opava, he organizes regular photographic workshops and long-term photographic projects documenting everyday life in towns and villages. Since 1990, he has systematically devoted a part of his work in support of humanitarian and charitable activities. Štreit’s photographs have received numerous domestic and foreign awards.
