The exhibition presents works by artists who were so taken by Franz Kafka’s The Castle that they expressed their response to the novel through art: Zbyněk Sekal (1923–1998), Eva Fuková (1927–2015), Karel Nepraš (1932–2002), Marie Filippovová (1938), Dana Puchnarová (1939), Jiří Slíva (1947), Volker M?rz (1957), Martin Němec (1957), Roman Trabura (1960), and Jaroslav Valečka (1972). In addition, the gallery approached various artists whose earlier work was inspired by the novel (especially in terms of motif and subject matter) and invited them to create new pieces for the exhibition: Eduardo Lara Alvarez Tostado (1975), Ondřej Basjuk (1983), Josefína Jonášová (1986), Matěj Hrbek (1988), and Jan Vohradský (1992). A third group of works by Jaroslav Macek (1944) and András Cséfalvay (1986) was not directly inspired by Kafka but bears a strong affinity with possible interpretations of and foundations for Kafka’s universe.
