White Unicorn Gallery
18 January – 30 March 2025
The gallery’s long-term West Point project annually presents artists associated with western Bohemia and its main city, Pilsen, whose role as a regional center has a tangible impact on shaping the contemporary art scene. This year’s solo exhibition presents the work of Slovak-born artist and filmmaker Milan Mazúr (1989, Žilina), who studied in the Studio of Intermedia Confrontation at the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague and received his doctorate degree from the New Media studio at Prague’s Academy of Fine Arts. He currently heads the multimedia studio at the University of West Bohemia’s Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art in Pilsen.
Mazúr applies his evocative visual vocabulary to a range of media while critically exploring the state of today’s globalized society. In the gallery, his works – made using the strategies of open, non-linear narration or autofiction – often influence the manner in which the exhibition installation incorporates moving images. In this, a certain role is played by scenic work with colored light or interpreted fragments of reality that stimulate sensual experiences directly associated with the exhibition’s subject and story.

On the exhibition’s opening day, the Šumava Cinema in Klatovy will show from 5:00 PM the artist’s film essay Casaria, in which he explores the imagination and the elusive, intangible nature of time – a phenomenon that defies physical and conventionally applied standards.
