Walking the Dog is Jan Ságl’s title for a series of photographs that he took during the Covid pandemic, starting in 2020 when our freedom of movement was limited by the anti-Covid measures and one of the few permitted leisure-time activities was to walk your dog. Ságl took advantage of his dog-walking sessions to photograph the landscape and natural details near his home in the village of Středokluky near Prague. The colorful details of floral objects and the landscape invite us to be aware of the uniqueness of the present moment, a uniqueness which perhaps rests in its inherently fleeting nature but which Ságl fixes on paper for us. In addition to this recent group of photographs, Ságl is also showing several older series: House Search (1973), Polachrome / Křížov pod Blaníkem (1985–1987), Swallows (1975), and Autumn (2017), plus cycles on wine-growing in the Pavlov region (since 2017), on Alsace (2012–2016) and Istria (2017), and on salt harvesting (since 2003) and oyster farming (since 2018) in Brittany.
